Angler's Checklist

Every fly fisherman must have and wear polycarbonate sunglasses/clear glasses at all times while fishing and casting.
We will not guide anyone without eye protection.

Suggested items for Ranch Fly Fisherman:

  • Airline tickets
  • Hotel room confirmation numbers
  • Cash
  • Credit cards
  • Drivers license
  • Travelers and personal checks
  • 3 short-sleeve cotton summer shirts
  • 2 pair comfortable jeans
  • 6 pair socks and 6 pair underwear
  • Insect repellant with "Deet"
  • Short-waisted warm Thinsulate jacket suitable for wading
  • All clothing should be waterproof, not "water resistant"
  • High quality rain gear, tops and bottoms (water proof)
  • Polarized fishing sunglasses are mandatory for eye protetion
  • Non-greasy sunscreen - small tube
  • Billed, waterproof cap
  • Light weight polarfleece coat and pants
  • Gortex hiking boots with fairly smooth sole for riding safety
  • Tennis shoes for around camp (optional)
  • Chest waders or hippers, either breathable or standard neoprene
  • wading shoes, felt bottom, no studs
  • Fly fishing vest
  • Bear spray, always
  • Fly selection
  • 7' - 9' rod in 2, 3, or 4 pieces
  • All rods must be in sturdy tubes
  • 3x, 4x and 5x tippet
  • Weight forward or double tapered floating line
  • Forceps
  • Fly floatant
  • 1 backup rod and reel combination
  • Floating fly boxes each connected to a nylon lanyard
  • Water bottle
  • Chapstick lip balm
  • "Compact camera"; GoPro; film, new battery in one gallon ziplock bag
  • Prescription medicines and inhalers
  • Prescription glasses, contacts, cleaner, extras of all
  • "Compact" travelers first-aid kit
  • Small flashlight for camp with new batteries and extra new bulb
  • 1 plastic bag for dirty clothes
  • 1 pair of lightweight long underwear
  • Hearing aids with new batteries
  • 1 softcover book or 2 magazines for camp
  • Leather gloves to keep hands warm while riding horses
  • Flyweight (day pack) for waders, shoes, vest, coat, rain gear, lunch, etc. while they are being transported daily by mule



    Added items for gypsy tent camp fishermen:

  • Compact sleeping bag rated down to 25 degrees. No large bags.
  • 19"x36" waterproof or canvas duffel bag to put all of your gear inside for the pack trip in and out of camp. Everything must fit into one bag except your fly rods.
  • Towel, washcloth, soap, lotions
  • "Compact" pillow and case. No full size pillows allowed
  • Weight limit for all personal gear is 35 lbs. (beer and whiskey)
